Ajouter au panierFirst edition of this extremely uncommon and indispensable reference work, containing over 7,000 records and much improved and expanded from its predecessor, Dodwell and Miles's Alphabetical List, which was published in 1838. There was an 18-year hiatus between the publication of the second and third volumes, and the dust jackets of the first two volumes state that the print-run was limited to 500 copies of each, of which 450 were for sale; the final two volumes were also issued in a limited edition, though the number of copies is not stated. We trace four complete sets in auction records in the last 50 years, with no recorded mention of the dust jackets. Hodson (c. 1883-1963) was an officer in the Indian Army. 4 vols, octavo. Original red cloth, spines lettered and ruled in gilt, blind rules to covers, bottom edges untrimmed (fore edges also untrimmed in vols 3 & 4). With dust jackets for vols 1 & 2. Edges spotted, endpapers browned, short split to vol. 1 inner hinge, vol. 3 very slightly sunned along extremities, vol. 4 spine rolled, the 2 dust jackets spotted, with slightly chipped and frayed spines and joint-ends, and a few other minor nicks or chips. An excellent, bright set.
