A striking production, handset in Mercedes and Futura types and printed by Mossen Alcover; the silk-screen reproduction of Rice's cover was done by Arthur Okamura, printed in black, brown, and white on a newsprint base. Inevitable toning to the inside wrappers and the endpapers from contact with the newsprint, which is itself inevitably nicked primarily to the folds and corners, and with a couple of tiny chips to the spine/upper spine fold, but rather well preserved in fact, the contents clean.

Ajouter au panierSoft cover. Etat : Good. 1st Edition. 8vo, unpaginated. Black and yellow wraps pasted to black card covers. Irving Latyon (1912-2006) was a seminal figure in the history of Canadian literature. Born in Romania, his family moved to Montreal in 1913 where he spent his formative years and took up poetry and political activism. He was part of a group of Canadian poets who believed that Canadian poetry needed to form an identity for itself, separate from British traditions, following the Second World War. In addition to his poetry, he was known for his strongly held and voiced opinions, as well as his role in helping to define a generation of Canadian poetry. This copy has a large red L in pencil crayon on the front fly leaf. A note in pencil indicates that it was Layton's own copy, though there is no further evidence for this. One poem has two corrections written in pen. There is also an embossed label on the front fly leaf saying "From the Odower Library." The book is in very good condition, with a dust jacket in good condition. The dust jack has some chipping and loss around the edges and the bottom of the spine, and it is worn on the front edge of the cover. There is some disoclouration and staining to the back cover, and a few pages have stains at the top, but the text is not affected in any case.
