Direct and indirect linkages between weeds and birds as well as phytophagous arthropods, agricultural pest arthropods, natural enemies and pollinators were counted based on data from published literature. A total of 5180 linkages was counted, of which 92 arthropod species were monophagous. Based on this, several weed species of particularly high biodiversity value were identified. The highest number of linkages with arthropods was found for Rumex acetosella, Cirsium arvense and Taraxacum officinale. For birds, Rumex officinalis, Raphanus raphanistra, Stellaria media, Spergula arvensis, Chenopodium album and the Polygonaceae genus were found to be key food items.Where have all the flowers gone The intensification of agriculture, with its more efficient weed control methods, has led to significant changes in agroecosystems. Since 1950, the biodiversity of arable weeds in crops has sunk by more than 70%. At the same time, arthropods and birds have been in steep decline across all taxa in Germany and beyond. The global biodiversity loss is occurring at an alarming rate, but what is the role of arable weeds in supporting biodiversity And how can the knowledge of the ecological value of arable weeds be integrated into practical farming Today, weeds are mainly regarded as economically damaging. The data from this thesis and a number of other studies indicate that a new approach to weed management is needed. Weeds do much more than impede crop production, as they support a wide range of ecosystem services.A model that takes the benefits of weeds both for biodiversity and farmers into account should be developed urgently. Several management suggestions are briefly reviewed here, but it will need a broad discussion among all stakeholders to bring about much-needed change in practical weed management and farming.

It causes running down of soil organic matter and available water for crop growth. Consequently, implementation of soil and water conservation especially level soil bund is supposed to alleviate the impacts of soil erosion and increase agricultural land production and crop productivity. Based on that the effects of level soil bund was evaluated by conducting on-farm study during the cropping season of 2019 in Eba wakeyo kebele, Nejo District, Western Wollega of Oromia Regional State with the objective of evaluating level soil bund on teff productivity and soil properties. The study involves two factor: level soil bund (with and without) was a main plot and the ages of level soil bund was taken as the sub-plots. The treatment (T1=with bund of six year splited in to 7, T= with bund of 4 year splited in to 7, T3= with bund of 2 year splited in to 7and T4= without splited in to 7) with randomized complete block design. The data was analyzed using general linear model procedures and to separate difference between mean LSD (5%) was used. The level soil bund increased the mean value of soil moisture contents at 0-30 cm and 0-60 cm soil depth, the teff (Eragrostis tef) grain yield increased by 22.85% when compared with controlled block and the teff biomass increased by 24.32%. As the wall, it is concluded that level soil bund improves soil fertility, soil moisture status and teff (Eragrostis tef) grain yield and yield components. 20 pp. Englisch.

The analysis of textual representations of food is based on a theoretical framework that includes a cultural anthropological perspective, as well as a rhetorical perspective. Furthermore, textual analysis is used to examine metaphorical and food narratives in the literature. Food is a powerful universal metaphor. It is associated with our senses, health and emotions besides our basic survival. Terry Eagleton states that food as well as literary works are actually a relationship. Furthermore, food is a central motif in cultural life and its metaphorical existence continuously touches on socio-cultural meanings. The metaphorical manifestation of food can extend the interest of the reader of literature to cultural and social interactions laden with food-related meanings. Sidney Mintz argues that consumption is always conditioned by meaning as well as a form of self-identification and communication. In the same vein, Mary Douglas has identified food as a social code. Many voices and theorists from different disciplines have contributed to the cultural studies of food. Thus, this paper will analyse the textual representations of food from the cultural, anthropological, and rhetorical perspective, and how to employ the textual analysis in order to examine the motif of metaphor and food narratives in literature. 20 pp. Englisch.

It is tested whether bureaucratic misunderstanding can lead to failure and whether this is the case in Srebrenica. It is assumed that discrepancies between the perception of the bureaucrats and the current situation on the ground can be risky with regard to the successful completion of the mission. A further question is also whether bureaucratic hurdles can hinder the successful completion of a mission and whether the Srebrenica massacre could have been prevented with a more flexible bureaucratic interpretation of the rules. The structure of this work will be as follows: After this introduction, constructivism is explained in principles, followed by a more detailed view of the bureaucratic approach of Barnett and Finnemore. After completion of the theoretical part, the emphasis will be on Bosnia. Chapter three is divided into three parts. The first part is a little overview about the beginning of the Bosnia War, second part gives an overview about the UNPROFOR UN mission in Bosnia and the last section of chapter three deals with the massacre in Srebrenica in 1995. Chapter four will review the case of Srebrenica, the Bosnia mission in general and the UN¿s failure with the abovementioned constructivist approach. 20 pp. Englisch.

Theoretically, I use Morgenthau's classical realism to examine the events that led to the annexation of Crimea and finally to the ongoing upheavals in Donbas. By analyzing applicable international law and bilateral treaties, I find that, in the early stages of the crisis, Moscow tried to exert influence on Ukrainian politics by exercising economic and political pressure. This may be due to an urge to prevent a weakening of its power position in the shadow of the ¿ then impending ¿ association between Ukraine and the EU. Russia thus pursued a policy of the status quo. However, later in the crisis, it annexed Crimea and resorted to military force and unconventional warfare. It has been found here that, after February 2014, Russian policy towards Ukraine shows essential features of a policy of imperialism. 20 pp. Englisch.

Effective isolation among different virtual machines running on the same host is promised, as well as isolation from the operating system that might be present on the host itself. These barriers are necessary, as cloud computing may create a situation where both provider and customer do not trust each other: The provider wants to keep full control over their expensive server hardware and the customer may want to process sensitive data inside their virtual machine that neither the provider nor other customers are allowed to see. As such, there are several attacker models to be considered in this context, both customers and hosting providers wanting to take control over other virtual machines or the physical server itself. In this paper, we consider attacks for each of the attacker models, as well as possible mitigations. In the end, we will find that while preventing VM escapes only really depends on having secure hypervisor implementations, efforts to protect the VM from the host itself are still rather flawed. 16 pp. Englisch.

IM is a communication technology that allows people to send and receive short text-based messages in real-time and to see who else is currently available. Many IM systems are available to be downloaded from the internet or come with other free software products. Commonly known examples are the ICQ Chat or the Facebook Messenger. Further, there are several IM systems that have been developed particularly for the professional use within organizations or other team-based work (Cameron & Webster, 2005). An exemplary IM device for the corporate use is ¿Slack.¿ Slack is a ¿cloud-based digital workspace and information management system¿ (Johnson, 2018, p. 148) that was published in 2013 and originally developed to manage productivity and improve team efficiency (Slack Technologies, 2020). It is a collaborative tool that facilitates streamlined communication. One of the main features is the¿ broad accessibility¿ that Slack offers: Users can access the platform via the web, a desktop plugin or even on a mobile application. Thus, Slack allows team members from different organizations as well as from different locations to join the collaborations and therefore enables ¿real-time conversations.¿ Those conversations, which can be direct and private as well as within group chats, are combined into one central location (the ¿workspace¿) that keeps all messages archived. Within this workspace, channels dedicated to a specific group, project or topic are compromised. Furthermore, Slack integrates several external applications such as Google Drive or Dropbox to enhance any project-related management (Johnson, 2018).Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Englisch.

In the beginning, the focus will be on the role of Oroonoko, who gives the novel its name and fails to gain his freedom as a royal slave. What makes him different than the other slaves and how is it visually presented An important point to consider is his European behaviour that he has acquired and how he shows it within interactions between other characters. Sahar Delijani an Iranian author whose debut novel, Children of the Jacaranda Tree, is a novel which reflects a female writer¿s voice out of her country which symbolically presents a diasporic, gender based voice. This voice has been raised out of her homeland (abroad, in USA and Italy) and tries to reflect her voice in her second language with a globalized view based on her natural feminist and cultural background. Her novel is a political protest but here we just want to analyze the effect of its diasporic, postmodern and gender based narration of globalized world of literature. In spite of a rich trove of classical works (mainly poems), modern Iranian literature is less than a hundred years old. If we consider the works of Sadegh Hedayat (1903-1951) in fiction and Nima Yushij (1895-1960) in poetry as the beginning of Iran's modern literature, then we can discern two influential factors in its development. First, there is a certain level of familiarity and interaction with the latest intellectual trends and literary achievements of the West. Second, a political openness at home, which brings about a suitable atmosphere for exchange of ideas and publication of new voices. 20 pp. Englisch.

Repeatedly, it is mentioned how mythicized Ireland¿s past is. How is this possible How is it acceptable to call a historical event that happened only one hundred years ago a myth Is its existence in question Why is it treated like a legend The Easter Rising of 1916 was a rebellion planned in secret by the military council of the Irish Volunteers and the Irish Citizen Army. The rebels seized Dublin¿s city centre, declared an Irish Republic and managed to defend their position for nearly one week until they ultimately surrendered to the forces of the British army which were superior in number. The rebels¿ names ¿ Pádraic Pearse, Tom Clarke, Séan MacDiarmada, Joseph Plunkett among others ¿ became the names of Irish national heroes though in the initial reaction of the Irish public this did not seem likely. Following the rapid changes of society due to the industrialisation, the English working class became a victim of its circumstances. In Elisabeth Gaskell's novel 'North and South' the character of Bessy Higgins embodies the type of the suffering innocent. In this figure, both social criticism and religious concepts and contemporary ideologies come together to form an understanding of afterlife that makes it possible to live with the Hell on Earth of the industrial period. This text studies the religious teachings of Unitarianism and Universalism of the Victorian period and applies them to the understanding of afterlife depicted by Gaskell. In this paper, the term universalism is restricted to Christian universalism in the sense of an apocatastasis (i.e. ¿reconstitution¿ or ¿restoration¿) with focus on the aspect of reconciliation (which is what Bessy repeatedly mentions when she talks of afterlife). The research question is whether the ideas and concepts the character of Bessy Higgins states about life after death are closer to the Unitarian or Universalist belief. This paper will analyse the character¿s comments and how Heaven and Hell in Bessy¿s understanding work. The statements will be compared to both religious persuasions and thereby draw the close relation between these two beliefs but also point out their differences. 16 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Essay from the year 2020 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 1,5, Ruhr-University of Bochum, language: English, abstract: In this essay I am going to argue that the medieval perception of the Devil incorporated iconography previously associated with the deities of pre-Christian Europe as part of their demonization under the interpretatio Christiana. While numerous literary portrayals of Satan from that period draw from ¿heathen¿ imagery, they do not always exemplify the larger trend of demonizing pagan gods. Although Satan¿s tricephalic form in Dante¿s Divina Commedia is likely to have been at least partially inspired by the Greek goddess Hecate, for instance, there do not seem to have been enough depictions of the Devil as having three faces to use this as an example of how Hecate was demonized. It is the more prevalent, folkloric portrayals of the Devil with hooves, horns, a forked tongue and carrying a pitchfork, bearing little resemblance to his theological counterpart (cf. Russell, Lucifer), that highlight the interpretatio Christiana of the Germanic Æsir and the Greco-Roman pantheon. As Richard Kiekhefer states in Magic in the Middle Ages (1989), ¿orthodox opinion¿ in early medieval Europe ¿held that pagan religion was no true religion but mere demon-worship¿. Thus, while figures such as Loki were imbued with Satanic qualities in later retellings of Norse myths, reinterpreting his shapeshifting and gender-fluidness as a sign of evil, iconography associated with Norse and Greco-Roman gods, such as goat legs, dogs, snakes and tridents, was incorporated into medieval Christian Devil folklore. 16 pp. Englisch.

For reasons of brevity, this will be elucidated mainly using the example of capitalism. While an abundance of other issues taken up by the novel, like climate change, democracy, racism or violence, would certainly serve as productive foci of analysis as well, capitalism will be the centre of attention because it is at the core of the apocalyptic circumstances portrayed in the novel. It also constitutes an intersection with most of the other issues named above, making capitalism a suitable starting point.Firstly, a short overview will be given on contemporary interpretations of the state of utopia, pointing out capitalism as a main factor in the changing of utopianism. Among others, Krishan Kumar¿s ¿The Ends of Utopiä, Jerry Phillips¿s ¿Utopia and Catastrophe in Octavia Butler¿s Parable of the Sower¿ and Darko Suvin¿s Metamorphoses of Science Fiction will be consulted. Realism, cognition, and estrangement will be pointed out as main tools of offering immanent critique and, in extension, utopian hope.Secondly, the production of immanent critique in Parable of the Sower will be analysed with the help of Mathias Nilges¿s paper on ¿The Realism of Speculation¿. Mike Davis¿s City of Quartz will serve to illustrate the realism in Butler¿s vision of future Los Angeles. The second example will examine the company town Olivar. Briefly consulting Rottinghaus¿, Pluretti¿s and Sutkös discursive paper ¿The End of Material Scarcity¿, the effectiveness of this immanent critique will be discussed. Lastly, this paper will seek to show how immanent critique allows for the creation of utopian hope, pointing towards the transformative value of utopian literature presented in Carl Freedman¿s Critical Theory and Science Fiction. This paper will, because of its limited length, not be able to further investigate critiques of capitalism in any other context than that of Butler¿s novel. Also, it will not be analysing the portrayal of capitalism as essentially nostalgic and conservative, making it the opposite of the utopian vision of adaptation and progress that it is contrasted with. The article uncovers the ideological underpinnings of The Great Controversy which includes a literalistic approach to apocalyptic literature using the insights of Teun A. van Dijk 'Ideology and discourse analysis.' While the hermeneutical vicissitudes of The Great Controversy are understandable in the light of nineteenth century biblical interpretation, the book is open to criticism in the light of the historical-critical method of interpreting scriptures associated with the likes of Hermann Gunkel and Julius Wellhausen, to name two of its progenitors. Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2020 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Other, grade: 2,0, Technical University of Braunschweig, language: English, abstract: This paper examines the depiction of gender in Mark Ravenhill's play The Cut. Special emphasis is hereby placed on the aspect of 'toxic masculinity' - a topic which has not lost its relevance since its first definition in the 1980s. Toxic masculinity and patriarchal dystopian systems are closely intertwined and have for some time found their place in feminist dystopian narratives such as The Handsmaid Tale by Margaret Atwood, Octavia Butler's Wild Seed or Vox by Christina Dalcher. At first glance, Marc Ravenhill's The Cut fits into this list only in terms of the dystopian moment. However, upon closer inspection, his play, which focuses almost exclusively on the male characters, also reveals the effects of patriarchal cultures and toxic masculinity on both the female and, in particular, the male members of society. Nevertheless, the aspect of gender and especially toxic masculinity has not yet been dealt with in the context of Ravenhill's work. Merle Tönnies, for example, concentrated primarily on the aspect of the immobility of power in her detailed analysis of The Cut, while Robert Kielawski placed his focus on 'the reinvention of utopia revolution and the big Other in decline' (Kielawski) - the aspect of gender inequality, however, did not seem to play a role for either of them. Furthermore, neither the critics, nor Ravenhill himself addressed the topic. In order to fill this gap, the present work will analyse The Cut based on the thesis that Marc Ravenhill's The Cut represents a patriarchal dystopia whose members suffer from the effects of toxic masculinity. In the course of this paper Marc Ravenhill and The Cut will be briefly introduced, followed by a theoretical background on gender in dystopian fiction in general and toxic masculinity in particular, and finally the depiction of gender and toxic masculinity in The Cut. In order to be able to undertake an analysis that is as detailed as possible, despite the limited scope of this work, Chapter 4 will focus primarily on the main character of the play, Paul, in order to highlight the aspects of toxic masculinity. However, this should not lead to the assumption that not all other characters would also show similar symptoms. 20 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Polemic Paper from the year 2020 in the subject Theology - Practical Theology, Kwame Nkrumah University, course: Religious Studies, language: English, abstract: This article expands and justifies the authors view that the Pope does not say anything new nor has he re-written Catholic moral and sacramental theology on homosexuality and same-sex partnerships. The author asks two questions: Does the Pope¿s endorsement of same-sex unions signify a change in the Catholic Church¿s teaching on marriage and homosexuality What has Pope Francis said about same-sex unions in the past Surprisingly, the answers to both questions are fairly straightforward. Marriage is still a covenant between a man and a woman ¿ a relationship which is open to the generation of new life. Same-sex partnerships or unions cannot be put in the same basket. The Pope suggests instead, the legal recognition of what he calls 'Convivencia civil' picked up and translated as 'civil union' by the Press. The recent papal opinions are complicated by translational challenges from Spanish to English and redaction from the unedited footage and text of the Mexican outlet Televisa to Evgeny Afineevsky¿s redaction of the Russian-born film director, producer and cinematographer who lives in the United States. The Pope's view is neither new nor contradictory to the perennial teaching of the Catholic. The shift is in pastoral approach to ensure the non-marginalisation of homosexual families. Pope Francis expressed the same view in 2010 when Argentina was debating same-sex marriage which he opposed. Instead, he suggested what is generally known as same-sex unions which guarantees the rights of gay people but does rise to the same doctrinal, sacramental or canonical status as the traditional heterosexual marriage between a man and a woman, freely entered into and open to the generation of new life. 20 pp. Englisch.

In order to do this, first, the Post-dramatic theory of Lehmann will be examined and the various features that make up Post-dramatic theatre will be scrutinized. Next, Lehmann¿s articulation of Landscape theatre along with three important aspects that it comprises off will be analyzed as post-dramatic performance conventions: the use of ¿images¿, metamorphoses, and the distortion of time. This will be done using predominantly Lehmann¿s theory, as well as input from other theatre scholars and supported by examples from Wilson¿s performances. A conclusion will be drawn regarding how these conventions work together in Wilson¿s work to provide the audience with a true Post-dramatic theatre experience. Robert Wilson is an internationally acclaimed experimental theatre stage director. His style of theatre is referred to as ¿Theatre of Visuals¿ or ¿Theatre of Images¿ coined by New York based critic, Bonnie Marranca (Hurstfield). Since the 1960s, Wilson's productions have had a significant influence on the world of theatre and opera. Theatre of Images is Wilson¿s endeavor at freeing the audience from text specific interpretations, which he found prevalent in Western theatre. He wanted to create theatre where the audience was free to 'explore individual meanings from his visual and aural experiences'(Hurstfield). 16 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2017 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 2,0, University of Koblenz-Landau, language: English, abstract: This paper deals with the status of contrabands in American society and the racial prejudice, they must cope with. In a second step, the Freudian concept of 'displacement' will be discussed and connected to Freud¿s findings about the super-ego. Finally, the findings of the previous chapters will be used to look at the primary text 'My Contraband' by Louisa May Alcott in more detail. The choice of words, especially the choice of colours, is worth taking a closer look at. Further textual evidence will also be discussed in order to look at what image of her contraband the nurse is producing and why she does so. 'My Contraband' is certainly a story about race. However, it is not a story about racial prejudice and stereotypes. Quite on the contrary, it is a story about interracial sexuality. Although this interpretation might go a little too far, it certainly offers a quite uncommon view on the African American. Baym et al. admits that 'My Contraband'only offers suggestions about such a possibility, for example a relationship between the two races. As we see the story world through the first-person narrator¿s eyes, we get access to Miss Dane¿s perceptions and thoughts. Miss Dane is a nurse and in the short story has the task to look after a wounded captain. When she enters the captain¿s sickroom for the first time she gets to see not only her patient but also the contraband who has been housed in the adjoining room. The first description of her impressions of him is very straightforward. She tells the reader that she feels decidedly more interested in the black man than in the white. Being attracted to a 'black' person and admitting this as clearly as in this passage is most likely to meet strong opposition in the society Miss Dane lives in. Although the reader can clearly see that Miss Dane does not show signs of racial prejudice, she still accepts the distribution of roles that the American society dictates. When she asks a favour of him she wants to offer comfort as a friend but instead merely gives an order as a mistress, 20 pp. Englisch.

Today, the situation is different in many families; children spend more and more time in front of screens, playing computer games or watching movies on tablets or smartphones. This is often at the expense of activity in nature. In addition, children from urban areas generally have limited access to natural areas. However, especially in our achievement-oriented society, in which children are expected to perform to a high standard, it is all the more essential that time and space are left for activities in the fresh air. Exercise like these helps them to recover and process what they have learned more easily. Many children spend little or no time in the forest in their free time. This means that they cannot distinguish local trees, cannot recognize animal tracks or correctly assign fruits and trees. In order to offer opportunities to exactly these children, who are not able to gather sensory experiences in nature and especially in the forest in their free time, it makes sense to integrate forest-pedagogical concepts into classroom activities. The learning opportunities are particularly varied; in addition to pure factual knowledge, children can learn a lot about themselves and develop their creativity in nature. The psychological and physical development of the Children is also positively influenced by the time they spend in nature. With this in mind, this work will show to what extent forest pedagogy and especially a selection of forest pedagogical concepts can be integrated into everyday school life. In order to explain this topic in depth, the second chapter following the introduction defines the term experiential education and afterwards forest pedagogy and briefly describes the historical development in each case. Then the basic needs of children are considered and it is shown how forest education can satisfy these needs. The fourth and at the same time last main chapter deals with different concepts and examples of how forest education can be taken into account in everyday school life. The selection here is limited to ¿nature discovery trails¿ and ¿forest classrooms¿. 16 pp. Englisch.

However, as such functions rely on sensor measurements to decide actions, they are subject to sensor measurement errors which influence the performance. Therefore, a manufacturer has to design both the sensors and functions in a robust manner considering these errors. A methodology for such a robust design has already been proposed for an automatic emergency braking system and is based on a probabilistic quality measure. It is often only possible to evaluate the involved probabilities through simulations of the system at hand which can require enormous computational effort. The goal of this thesis is to find an efficient way of evaluating these probabilities based on simulations in order to reduce the computational effort.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 52 pp. Englisch.

However, there are also certain situations where an employee¿s conduct or lack of knowledge severely harms a business. Therefore, employers need ways to unilaterally terminate the employment relationship with an employee (Konnert, 2005). The termination of a contract by an employer is also known as dismissal. As a dismissal is a one-sided action by the employer, the employee needs to be protected from this action in case the employer takes advantage of his power. This protection is usually granted through the legislation in a country. This report will therefore critically analyse the possibilities for an employer to unilaterally dismiss an employee in the United Kingdom and Germany. In doing so the different types of dismissal will be presented and a further focus will be on the options employees have to protect themselves from being unfairly dismissed. Prior to this, the report will briefly comment on the employment law in the United Kingdom and Germany. 16 pp. Englisch.

At the beginning the approach of juvenile delinquency is explained. This is followed by an empirical part in which the development of violence is explained. Then the connection to parent-child violence is described.Healthy upbringing and the associated learning of social skills at the individual level in the form of interpersonal interaction is very important. Such an education also has an indirect effect on the societal level, with institutions such as kindergartens and schools now also having a secondary role alongside parents. socialization instances play a formative role. As a rule, this ensures that children and adolescents are steered in the right direction and behave in accordance with society. However, not every young person is brought up well or healthily and this can have extensive consequences. Perhaps the worst consequence could be that they do not accept prosocial attitudes and values. Prosocial behaviour is desired by society and is in line with social and legal norms. Conversely, this leads to the assumption that antisocial behaviour could increase the likelihood of delinquent behaviour. Delinquent behaviour can have fatal consequences which can have extremely negative effects within society. This in turn leads to the question of which factors are responsible for criminal behaviour among young people. 40 pp. Englisch.

At the same time, it is crucially important to notice that this task is quite problematic because of the conditions of our environment. This means scarcity and uncertainty. Existing resources are by no means adequate, assured or stable. That is why the resource imperative implies the adaptation of organizations to all the requirements of the important providers of resources.Currently, International Non-Profit Organizations are more and more often in a spotlight. Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2008 in the subject Cultural Studies - GLBT / LGBTIQ, grade: 2,0, University of Erfurt, language: English, abstract: This paper is a critique on the application of sexual categories for male-male encounters. The paper will start with an analysis on the development of ¿homosexuality¿ as a modern category for sexual preference in Western societies. In comparison to that, the social and cultural frame of Muslim societies will be shown.Furthermore, various discourses applied to cross-cultural encounter between Western and Muslim societies will be examined to answer the question in how far sexual categories are used to explain social conditions and how categories from Western societies are transferred into a Muslim context without critical reflection. In the last part, the paper will deal with the question in how far developing social networks based on male-male sexual acts in Muslim countries are adapting to a ¿global gay identity¿ and with which consequences. To illustrate this, recent studies about homosexual men in Turkey and Lebanon will be referenced. For the most part, this historical ¿evidence¿ has been described in studies based on a small amount of reliable information and with unfortunate usage of definitions and categories common to European and North American sociology.¿Homosexuality¿ is such a term. It is by no means neutral and applicable to Muslim or other non-Western societies. It ascribes meaning to certain social occurrences and obstructs the perspective on the actual realities. Pre-knowledge from one¿s own cultural background is applied to the subject instead of obtaining knowledge from the subject itself.Amongst sociologists it is recognised that ¿the homosexual¿ is a historical construct and that it is necessary to make a distinction between homosexual behaviour, which is and has been present in most cultures and homosexual identity, which is a rather young phenomenon originating from Western European and Northern American culture.Sexuality has a history of its own with ideas, practices and values that are different in various times and spaces. Additionally, the variety of these historical examples shows that a single definition for homosexual behaviour in Islamic societies cannot be found because different people in different social situations define sexualities differently. 32 pp. Englisch.
