Ajouter au panierFull Leather Hard Back. Etat : Good. illustrated frontispiece opposite Title Page (red/black text) + viii + 638 (actually 640 due to printer numbering pages 623 624 twice by mistake). Condition original full leather binding, blind embossed covers & decorative gilt embossed spine, good, edges rubbed, some leather splitting to font cover, but not loose. Contents mostly very good, clean & tight, owner name top right edge of title page, a few pages light water staining to edge, the odd very minimal mark, just a few corner folds, inside cover with the bookplate of 'St. Andrew Ward esq. Hooton Pagnell' . Hooton Pagnell Hall stretches back to the Norman Conquest and was first mentioned in the Domesday Book, though the earliest part of the present house dates from the 13th century In 1681 the Hall became the home of Sir Patience Warde, an early Whig Politician, merchant and the former Lord Mayor of London, and still owned by the Ward/Warde family. In 2015 Bonhams had one of their country house sales in Knights bridge, mostly antiques, silver & paintings with books at the end, there were some single books estimates from £100s to £20-30,000, and a number of job lots. So may have been from a job lot. Since then a number with the bookplate of 'St. Andrew Ward' has turned up at Christies & Sothebys. So a good 1716 copy with, the well respected provenance of 'St. Andrew Ward esq. Hooton Pagnell'. Size: 13 x 20cm Approx. …

Ajouter au panier[TEXAS]. First published in twenty parts, of which the first seventeen were issued by Chapman & Hall, and the final three parts by Bentley. As for this book issue, with a different imprint in each volume, Sadleir says, "When Bentley took over . he assumed the novel was to be published in one thick volume . and accordingly prepared a title without volume number . at the last moment Chapman & Hall insisted on a continuing share in the venture, and were so far able to enforce their claim, that a two-volume book set was hastily devised, divided as to title-page imprints between the rivals." Some light foxing throughout, covers a bit darkened and some light, professional cosmetic restoration to corners and spine ends, else very good, tight copies. Housed in a slipcase with leather label on spine and titles stamped in gold gilt.…
