A volume of twenty-six religious tracts, bound together in 1867 by one Mr William Kirk of the Ballast Hill Bottle Works, and presented by him to Mr Robert Park.…A typed notice to the front pastedown provides this explanation, while a typed notice to the front free endpaper described this work as a 'Selection of Religious Tracts; Mr. Gladstone on Civilisation and Christianity; and Rules of Post Office Savings Banks'.Each tract is faintly numbered in pencil to the head.The majority of the works in this volume are very scarce anonymously authored brief sermons on a number of subjects. Published by the Religious Tract Society, these are: "New Year"s Day" by Rev. F. A. West; "To-Day"; "Vain Glory and True Glory"; "Scripture Encouragements to Prayer"; "The Christian Sabbath"; "Am I Going to Heaven?", abridged from Baxter; "A Man Overboard! Or, What Comes After Death", by a sailor; "Often Warned"; 'Regeneration by the Holy Spirit, and Salvation by Faith in Christ"; "The Danger of Indecision and the Duty of Decision"; "A True Story of Lucknow";"Salvation by Faith in Christ"; "Martha Gilbert; or, Where there is a Will there is a Way"; "The Dairyman"s Daughter" by Legh Richmond, and the 1862 tract "Battista; or, the Labourer Called at the Eleventh Hour".Also present are:A very scarce "Edward Bickersteth" issue of the Religious Tract Society"s 1860s publication "Biographical Series". An account of the life of the an English evangelical clergyman from the prominent Bickersteth family.Published circa 1840, the vanishingly scarce work credited to "A Factory Man" titled "The Weekly Jubilee of the Sons of Toil; or, the Advantages of the Sabbath to the Labouring Classes".Charles B. Tayler"s very scarce works "The Bar of Iron; Or, Unsanctified Affliction: A True Story", and "The Conclusion of the Matter; or, The End of the Bar of Iron", dated circa 1840 via the Victoria and Albert Museum libraries.The twentieth thousand of William Arthur"s very scarce "Free, Full, and Present Salvation", published in 1859, and his 'Only Believe', published in 1860.The very scarce circa 1860 work 'Mr Gladstone on Civilisation and Christianity'.Published by John Mason, the vanishingly scarce tracts "Marks of the Unconverted" and "The Two Brothers, A Narrative from Real Life".Old Humphrey's vanishingly scarce "The Two Widows; or, Goody Blake and Gammer Grove".The volume concludes with the 1863 publication 'Regulations of the Post Office Savings Bank'. In the original calf covered boards. Significant rubbing to back strip head and tail, board perimeters and joints. Label to front board significantly age toned.
