Bilingual Edition Spanish-English. Yoandy Cabrera, ed.One of the most recent reimaginings of Medea, packed with fresh explosive charges, is Iran Capote's Medea Prefabricated. His heroine revels in being a woman, with no hint of modesty or restraint; her ferocity and fury spring directly from her femininity. For this Medea, both ideas and love are inseparable from her identity as a female, understood in its most physical, impulsive, and primal sense.Capote builds on the inherited, "prefabricated" structure of the myth by giving it greater complexity, weaving in themes of sexual diversity and exile. And while Homer locates the thymotic realm (the seat of emotion) in the chest or the heart, in Medea Prefabricated thinking and loving are reshaped through the lens of female embodiment, which becomes the core of her identity and her dramatic force.Yoandy Cabrera, ed.
