Taking into account the differences in their reproductive behavior, they were split into two groups of age: 15-17 and 18-19 years old. In order to achieve the purpose of this research, some aspects of their living conditions, such as household income, schooling, occupational status position, family position and number of children have been analyzed. The data on living conditions of adolescent mothers has been compared with the data on female adolescents who have never had children. The change in their living conditions from Cardoso's neoliberal government to Lula's social-democratic government has been compared as well. The research findings indicate that motherhood in adolescence prevail among the poorest. Previous studies have found that a person's knowledge about a species group can directly affect their attitudes. In this study it was discovered that knowledge could not only significantly predict a person's attitude but also their behavior towards the conservation of sharks. The higher a person's knowledge the more positive their attitudes, and the more likely they were to behave in a way that would support conservation of these species. However, this study also shows that in general, respondents had a low level of knowledge about sharks. The results indicate that there is a solid awareness and support for general environmental goals at local levels; an awareness and concern for climate change but limited understanding of scientific causes, possible consequences and solutions to the problem ; considerable perceived threat from climate change although it is not a front burner issue compare to other socio-economic and environmental issues. Hence, information on morbidity and mortality patterns is essential for decision making or planning purposes. The purpose of this study was to describe the morbidity and mortality patterns for the under-5 year old children who were admitted in 11 district hospitals in Eastern Cape Province from 2000 to 2004. Pre-transitional causes were accountable for more than third of morbidity and mortality which can be associated with low socio-economic and under- development status of the province. The most commonest causes of both morbidity and mortality were diarrheal diseases,lower respiratory tract infections,protein-energy malnutrition and pneumonia. More than 40% of those deaths occured within 24 hours of admission. Multi-sectoral approach is essential to deal with those poverty related diseases in the province. 92 pp. Englisch.
