Furthermore, the special economic situation of SMEs determines the degree of risk aversion of the decision makers. In the current state of scientific discussion, no model for risk aversion exists. Therefore it is not possible to explain scientifically the risk-averse decision-making behavior and the influence of the economic situation of decision makers to complex investment decisions. To answer the thesis, a model of risk aversion with the variables risk expectation, experience, information, intuition, risk preferences and risk perception is developed. This doctoral thesis also investigated the relationship between the variables. The variables of the model of risk aversion are verified with the example of the risk aversion decision-making behavior of decision makers in SMEs at a Brazilian direct investment.

For safety reasons, the aero engines always employ rolling-element type bearings and therefore require a sufficient oil supply for lubrication in order to guarantee a reliable operation. As a consequence, a complex two-phase flow consisting of oil and sealing air governs the bearing chambers. A highly dynamic oil film, flowing along the chamber walls, plays a vital role to fulfill the tasks of cooling, lubricating and cleaning the bearing chambers. The design and optimization process of the bearing chambers requires a detailed understanding in order to accurately simulate the film behaviour inside the bearing chambers. Based on the earlier experimental investigations, it is known that near the scavenge off-take a relatively thick film exists. The numerical model to simulate these films must therefore take into account the elliptical behaviour of such films. Among the different models, the Volume Of Fluid (VOF) Model offers the best compromise between accuracy and efforts.However, preliminary attempts to model a fully developed and turbulent test case from literature revealed an unphysical pressure drop and velocity profile in the gas phase above the film flow. An inadequate turbulence modelling near the gas-liquid interface was identified as the problem source. The 2-Equation turbulence models were extended to achieve a substantial improvement. In particular, we consider two classes of such control problems, namely distributed MPC for cooperative control in networks of multiple interconnected systems, and economic MPC, where the main focus is on the optimization of some general performance criterion which is possibly related to the economics of a system. The contributions of this thesis are to analyze various systems theoretic properties occurring in these type of control problems, and to develop distributed and economic MPC schemes with certain desired (closed-loop) guarantees. To be more precise, in the field of distributed MPC we propose different algorithms which are suitable for general cooperative control tasks in networks of interacting systems. We show that the developed distributed MPC frameworks are such that the desired cooperative goal is achieved, while coupling constraints between the systems are satisfied.Furthermore, we discuss implementation and scalability issues for the derived algorithms, as well as the necessary communication requirements between the systems. In the field of economic MPC, the contributions of this thesis are threefold. Firstly, we analyze a crucial dissipativity condition, in particular its necessity for optimal steady-state operation of a system and its robustness with respect to parameter changes. Secondly, we develop economic MPC schemes which also take average constraints into account. Thirdly, we propose an economic MPC framework with self-tuning terminal cost and a generalized terminal constraint, and we show how self-tuning update rules for the terminal weight can be derived such that desirable closed-loop performance bounds can be established. This research mainly investigates the robust coordinated control of FACTS devices and traditional power system controllers in large power systems. The following objectives have been achieved: FACTS modeling and controller design: FACTS devices are modeled using the current injection method. Linear and non-linear methods for the FACTS damping controller design are developed. Optimal choice and allocation of FACTS devices: Using the genetic algorithms, the locations of the FACTS devices, their types and rated values are optimized simultaneously. The objective function, which consists of the investment costs for FACTS devices and the generation costs, is minimized. Adaptive FACTS transient controller design using ANFIS technology: This objective deals with the development of fuzzy adaptive FACTS transient stability controller. Furthermore, by means of Adaptive Network based Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) technology, the fuzzy controller parameters are optimized.Simultaneous coordinated tuning of FACTS damping controller and conventional Power System Stabilizers (PSSs): Using the linearized power system model and the parameter-constrained non-linear optimization algorithm, interactions among PSS and FACTS damping controllers are considered. The controller parameters are optimized simultaneously to achieve a global optimal damping behavior. Robust FACTS loop-shaping Power Oscillation Damping (POD) controller design in multi-machine power systems: By applying the model reduction and modern robust loop-shaping control technique, the FACTS robust loop-shaping POD controller is realized. This controller exploits the advantages of both conventional loop-shaping and modern robust control technique. Moreover, it is a decentralized approach and suitable for FACTS controller design in real large power systems. Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) is particularly suitable for this purpose due to its biocompatibility and exceptional protein resistance, however introduction of new functional groups as well as the increase of their number per polymer chain is required in order to tune PEG's properties and increase its loading capacity. A general method for the anionic ring-opening polymerization of ethylene oxide and functional epoxides has been developed and utilized for the preparation of a number of multifunctional PEGs and their copolymers with PEG. The obtained polymers were either directly or after post-polymerization modification utilized for the fabrication of biomaterials. Smart hydrogels have been prepared from a multifunctional photoresponsive PEG copolymer and multifunctional hydrazide PEG. Reactive anisotropic particles suitable for either reversible sugar conjugation or dual stimuli (oxidation and UV irradiation) triggered degradation have been fabricated via electrohydrodynamic co-jetting.These new biomaterials have great potential for applications in tissue engineering and targeted drug delivery with controlled release.
