The covers feature an outline map of Alaska with the respective volume's pipeline segment highlighted in yellow. Minimal spotting and moderate moisture staining mostly to Vol. I, with marginal toning around the edges on several map leaves. A rare two-volume atlas and map index for the monumental Trans Alaska Pipeline Project, prepared by engineering firm Michael Baker Jr., Inc. for the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company in September 1974. These large-format atlas volumes, likely issued in a small edition for company personnel and investors, detail the planned 800-mile route of the pipeline, divided geographically: Volume I charts the northern stretch from Livengood to Prudhoe Bay, while Volume II maps the southern portion from Valdez to Livengood.The Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) was one of the largest privately funded construction efforts in history, built following the 1968 discovery of oil at Prudhoe Bay and expedited by the 1973 energy crisis. Construction officially began in 1974, making these volumes vital primary documents from the project's foundational phase. The atlases provided comprehensive engineering and logistical oversight of the pipeline's trajectory through extreme and remote terrain, illustrating the complex routing required to navigate permafrost, mountain ranges, and numerous river crossings.RarityRare in the market. Cover has some inked in math problems on back - wear to covers: soiling, darkening, short tear on one edge -etc. Maps very nice without markings. Size: Oblong Folio.
