This work is a revised and enlarged edition with new features (author's Note to Reader). The 24th New Jersey, as a nine-month regiment, was formed in September 1862 at Camp Cadwallader, Beverly, New Jersey. They served in Washington, D.C. and in Northern Virginia, and participated in the Battle of Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville before mustering on in June of 1863.
