Hardcover. Etat : Good. 1st Edition. This is a nostalgic novelty! A little book (patented in 1917) that is largely filled with advertisements aimed at new brides. These ads, mostly from businesses in the San Jose area, are for household appliances, decor, clothing, furniture, medicines and services thought to be useful to the couple setting up their first home. The book was presented free to newlyweds in the hope that they would become customers of the businesses. The book also contains recipes (I guess that's why they call it a Cook Book) and other useful information like stain removal techniques. A fun thing, and quite scarce. This copy is good only. The spine is worn and lacking some of the paper covering, the binding is weak inside the covers, although all pages are secure, and the book is generally dotted with brown spots and light stains. Any coupons that were attached to the ads are long gone. A fascinating look at America at the tail end of the First World War.
