And if Carmichel's tales seem unlikely, just remember that they're based, somewhat loosely, on his observances of life in the hills of East Tennessee, where, as Jim puts it, the improbable, the implausible and the impossible are everyday occurences. Carrnichel, who followed Jack O'Connor as Firearms Editor of Outdoor Life magazine. first related these tales in his column in Rifle magazine, for which he was also a technical writer.
