Magazine. Etat : Very Good+. [light external wear, small nick in right edge of front cover which has also slightly affected the first few pages]. (Preview Publishing Specials) Series This oversize magazine, "The Baseball Annual for the Serious Fan!", presents a preview of the 1991 Major League Baseball season, including team rosters, schedules, farm reports, and analysis and grading of all 26 teams. The cover story celebrates the return of homegrown slugger Darryl Strawberry to Los Angeles, as he had signed with the Dodgers during the off-season after spending his first eight MLB years with the New York Mets (although in hindsight the celebration didn't extend beyond the 1991 season). Other feature articles include: "How to Succeed in the Baseball Business" by Jim Kaplan; a profile of veteran Red Sox catcher Carlton Fisk; and "Men in Blue: Arbiters or Antagonists?," about umpires being "under fire for their belligerent, temperamental and confrontational image" (this was news?). There's also a recap of the 1990 season, reports on the top prospects in the college and high school baseball scenes, many many stats of course, and numerous other features, including "Maz's Gold List," in which Associate Editor Mazeroski (he of the famous walk-off home run that won the 1960 World Series for the Pittsburgh Pirates) presents his choices for the most promising major league prospects.…

Soft cover. Etat : Good. 1st Edition. Good by strict standards; but see scans and description. New York: Preview Publishing, Inc. / InfoSports, 1987. Dick Vitale's Basketball '87 - '88 (1987 - 1988), 'The Pro/College Annual For the Serious Fan !'. Derrick Coleman, J.R. Reid Cover. Vitale's scarce oversized publication, a tall Folio sized magazine at 12 1/4" high, back when a few sports publications would still spend the money for such a size; photo-illustrated staple-bound wraps, a hearty 138 pp. Just Good, primarily due to the separation of the covers from the textblock. Some want-to-curl from having been held that way at one time, a bit of cover edge wear. But that's it. Covers are complete and bright, and of course the contents are undamaged. See scans. Full coverage of pros and college - as well as a few pages on up and coming high school stars - plus stats, schedules, etc., all roundly illustrated with primarily color photography. In well-loved, well-used condition, but a true genre scarcity for the collector. Shipped in a new, protective box - no bags for this one. LPR50.…
