(Preview Publishing Specials) Series This oversize magazine, "The Baseball Annual for the Serious Fan!", presents a preview of the 1991 Major League Baseball season, including team ros…ters, schedules, farm reports, and analysis and grading of all 26 teams. The cover story celebrates the return of homegrown slugger Darryl Strawberry to Los Angeles, as he had signed with the Dodgers during the off-season after spending his first eight MLB years with the New York Mets (although in hindsight the celebration didn't extend beyond the 1991 season). Other feature articles include: "How to Succeed in the Baseball Business" by Jim Kaplan; a profile of veteran Red Sox catcher Carlton Fisk; and "Men in Blue: Arbiters or Antagonists?," about umpires being "under fire for their belligerent, temperamental and confrontational image" (this was news?). There's also a recap of the 1990 season, reports on the top prospects in the college and high school baseball scenes, many many stats of course, and numerous other features, including "Maz's Gold List," in which Associate Editor Mazeroski (he of the famous walk-off home run that won the 1960 World Series for the Pittsburgh Pirates) presents his choices for the most promising major league prospects.

Some want-to-curl from having been held that way at one time, a bit of cover edge wear. But that's it. Covers are complete and bright, and of course the contents are undamaged. See scans. Full coverage of pros and college - as well as a few pages on up and coming high school stars - plus stats, schedules, etc., all roundly illustrated with primarily color photography. Published as double issue of "Identity" magazine # 17/18 1962. Selections form the novel then under contract to be published by Harper. Introduced by Albert Guerard who was the author's writing instruct…or at Harvard. Laid in at front is a typed letter to John Cheever, dated July 24, 1962 and asking for Cheever's time to llok at the selections and if possible to avail hinself of galleys then under preparation. Additionally the author has inscribed this copy to Cheever on the title page. Paperback in pictorial wraps with saddle stapled binding. There are a number of manuscript corrections and additions in the text; presumably in the author's hand. For additional context, an intersting read (search Google) is Michael Crichton's undergraduate Harvard Crimson article/interview with Miller following the novel's publication. VG; Signed by Author.
