Ajouter au panierSoft cover. Etat : Very Good. Original publisher's beige paper pamphlet with string binding. Small piece of string bound about center near the spine. 5 3/4" x 9." Thirty-two pages, complete. Appendix on Pages 23-32. Pages are clean and intact overall but have moderate age toning, darkening on front and back, slight wrinkling and… bumping at the corners. A Very Good copy. This is a transcription of a speech that was originally given by Reverend George Putnam on the occasion of the passing of Henry A. S. Dearborn. Putnam gave the speech on September 3, 1851 before the city government and citizens of Roxbury, Massachusetts. Henry A. S. Dearborn (1783-1851) was an American lawyer, soldier, and politician. He served as a United States Representative from Massachusetts from 1831-1833 and the 2nd Mayor of Roxbury from 1847-1851. In his address, Putnam gives a thoughtful eulogy in honor of the late Dearborn. He acknowledges the imperfection of man and says no individual is an exemplar of all virtues. However, he implores his listeners to have an "eye for what is beautiful and noble in human character, wherever it appears, in whatever forms, in whatever connections. Putnam appears to say that human virtue ought to be recognized wherever it manifests in an individual even if they are flawed in other areas. He interweaves this perspective with what he says is a Christian duty to "honor all men." He proceeds to commemorate Dearborn and gives a brief biographical sketch about him. He highlights his industriousness and ability to plan for long-term goals. Putnam commends Dearborn for his good communication skills and various public works projects that were made for the "public good." For example, Putnam brings attention to Dearborn's involvement with the Horticultural Society and how he helped shape New England's horticultural industry. Putnam also describes Dearborn as having a thirst for wholesome knowledge and praises him for being unworldly, a devout Christian, an appreciator of nature, being content with few material belongings, and being helpful and considerate toward others. The Appendix includes brief transcripts of dispatches relating to the passing of Dearborn, memorial services, and Putnam's address.

Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. Two thousand years apart, two women walk the same road of waiting, love, and faith. In a small village near the shores of Galilee lives Tirzah, the daughter of a shepherd and the wife of a young fisherman named Amos. Their life begins with simple hopes-marriage, family, and the quiet rhythms of v…illage life. But when Amos is drawn into the growing movement of a mysterious teacher from Nazareth, Tirzah must learn what it means to love someone who is called toward something greater than their own life together. As rumors spread of healings, parables, and conflict with powerful authorities, Tirzah's faith begins to awaken. Beneath a fig tree on the dusty road to Jericho, her life slowly unfolds through seasons of longing, sacrifice, and hope-until the events in Jerusalem change the world forever. Two thousand years later, Miriam, a modern woman facing illness and the memories of a life shaped by love and loss, begins experiencing vivid dreams of Tirzah's world. What begins as imagination slowly reveals a deeper connection, as Miriam discovers that the ancient story unfolding in her dreams mirrors the quiet questions of her own life.Across centuries, the lives of two women intertwine around a single symbol-the fig tree, a reminder that even in seasons that appear barren, faith and love are still growing beneath the surface. The Fig Tree of Jericho is a moving historical novel about devotion, sacrifice, longing, and the quiet mystery of lives lived in the shadow of the greatest story ever told.A story of waiting.A story of faith.A story that reminds us that no life lived in hope is ever truly barren. Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Poor. 1st Edition. Calfskin-bound, octavo first edition of Henry, Earl of Monmouth's translation of Traiano Boccalini's "I Ragguali di Parnasso," dated to 1656. Traiano Boccalini (1556-1613) was an Italian political writer and satirist. Particularly known for his anti-Spanish sentiment, he was educated as a law…yer and worked in the papal service in Rome. His best-known work was his "I Ragguali di Parnasso" (1612-13), presented as fictional discussions of literature, art, and music by various historical figures under the patronage of the god Apollo. The first English translation of the work was produced by Henry Carey (1687-1743), 2nd Earl of Monmouth. An English poet, playwright, and musician, he was especially known for his ballads. Unfortunately, he nevertheless was not financially successful because of pirating of his works, and ultimately died by suicide. His translation of Boccalini's "I Ragguali," under the title "Advertisements from Parnassus; in Two Centuries with the Politick Touchstone," was very influential in Europe, inspiring writers like Joseph Addison and Jonathan Swift. This first edition was printed for Humphrey Mosely (d. 1661), a notable London publisher and bookseller. Thomas Heath, about whom no information could be found, is also listed as a publisher located in Russel Street near the Piazza of Covent Garden. The publication date is given as 1656. The book is bound in calfskin with, small tooled borders pressed into the leather. The leather may have been marbled or mottled, but there is significant wear and damage that makes it difficult to determine with certainty. There is significant loss to the cover and the spine, which has six raised bands. While the original binding is present, the front cover has separated entirely and the back cover is only tenuously attached. Internally, the book is in much better condition. There is some tearing and chipping to the edges of the frontpiece, but otherwise little damage, and there does not appear to be anything that significantly impacts the text, beyond some small incidents of bookworm damage.

Letzte A…uflage von Blackstone? Sir William BLACKSTONE (1723-1780) read classics and methematics at Oxford, became a Fellow of All Souls, and was called to the Bar in 1746. He served as assessor of the Chancellor`s court at Oxford, a delegate of the University Press, and took a large part in settling the scheme for the Vinerian Professorship of Englsih Law in 1756-58. From 1753 to 1758 he lectured privately at Oxford on English Law, the first lectures on English law ever given in a university. In 1758 he became Vinerian Professor and lectured on English law there till 1766, and his annual lectures became the basis of his Commentaries. His lectures spread his fame and his progress at the bar was rapid. He entered Parliament and took silk in 1761, became Solicitor-General to the Queen in 1763 and in 1766 he gave up his chair. In 1770 he became a judge of the King`s Bench and later in the same year he transferred to the Common Pleas where he proved himself an able judge and sat til his death. His major work was the Commentaries on the Laws of England (1765-1770) in four books dealing respectively with the Rights of Persons, the Rights of Things, Private Wrongs, and Public Wrongs. It was an immediate success and eight editions appeared in his lifetime and at least 15 more after his death, while in 1840-49 Serjeant Stephen produced new Commentaries founded on Blackstone but adapted to the changed state of the law. The Commentaries were equally popular in the U.S.A. and passed through many editions there, being the chief source of knowledge of English Law for many years and it inspired Kent`s Commentaries on American Law.

Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. This is not a story about love found or love lost. It is a story about love that refuses to be simplified.Avira does not arrive as a heroine, nor does she depart as a lesson. She lives in the spaces we rarely name-the long silence after devotion, the body that remembers when the mind insists on…order, the quiet courage it takes to continue without erasing what came before. Her life does not move in straight lines. It circles, returns, hesitates, and finally chooses-not once, but again and again. This book is written in the belief that desire is not a flaw to be corrected, but a language the body speaks when it wants to remain alive. That grief does not end love; it only changes its address. That fidelity can exist without denial, and redemption without forgetting. Avira's choices are not made to please morality or provoke rebellion. They are made to remain honest.Rain moves through these pages the way memory does-sometimes gentle, sometimes violent, always necessary. It witnesses childhood and marriage, loss and awakening, union and farewell. It does not judge. It completes. If you are looking for resolution, you may not find it neatly. If you are looking for permission-to feel deeply, to want without shame, to love more than once, to carry the past without drowning in it-you may recognize yourself here. This story asks only that you read slowly. Because Avira's life, like all lives that are fully lived, cannot be rushed without losing its meaning. This item is printed on demand. Taschenbuch. Etat : Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - This is not a story about love found or love lost. It is a story about love that refuses to be simplified.Avira does not arrive as a heroine, nor does she depart as a lesson. She lives in the spaces we rarely name-the long silence after devo…tion, the body that remembers when the mind insists on order, the quiet courage it takes to continue without erasing what came before.

Taschenbuch. Etat : Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Set in a boarding school nestled in the lush hills of Lonavala, Rain at Lonavala follows the journey of Rohit and Heena-two students whose quiet companionship grows into something deeper, yet remains unspoken.Amid friendships, rivalries, rum…ours, and the turbulence of adolescence, their bond forms in silence-through shared studies, fleeting moments, and an unacknowledged understanding. But on the brink of confession, life intervenes, and they are pulled apart into separate worlds.Years later, shaped by loss, duty, and the weight of choices made for them, they find themselves face to face again-far from home, yet closer than ever to the truth they once avoided. As past and present collide, they must confront not only what they feel, but what they have become.Spanning youth to adulthood, Rain at Lonavala is a poignant exploration of love, memory, trauma, and healing-where the past lingers, and the heart remembers what the mind tries to forget.
