ix,(3), 300 pp. Large octavo. Original gilt lettered green cloth. gilt top edge. Original endpapers. 38 photogravure plates and 3 plates from photos, and one folding map in pocket. Boards almost with no wear or bumping. Map has a bit of light browning. A wonderful copy of this very scarce edition Neate W73. Wilcox (1869-1949) was an original member of the American Alpine Club who explored the Canadian Rockies in the 1890's from north of the Kicking Horse Pass south to Mt. Assiniboine. Phyllis and Walter Munday were early pioneer climbers in British Columbia. In 1925 they discovered Mt. Waddington in the Coast range. They spent almost 10 years trying to climb it. They were book people and put together a great library which was dispersed many years ago. I have had quite a number of there books over the years. This copy of Wilcox is one of them! The book started out as Camping in the Rockies with editions in 1896 and revised in 1897. It was then renamed in 1900 to the Rockies of Canada with editions in 1903, 1906, 1909 and finally 1916. Each edition varied with the number of plates, maps, and quality of the binding. One really needs to own every one to have a complete Wilcox collection! Another great part of his books are the photogravure plates. This high quality printing process made the illustrations very special. Rare in this condition and with the great association.…
