Etat : Near Fine. 9.5" x 6.5" This two page typewritten letter signed by famous art deco artist Erte, addressed to Brooklyn Architect Ira Goldfarb on decorating a large panel in the dining room of Barbara Streisand's townhouse on 49 East 80th Street in New York. Erte addresses Streisand as 'Mrs. Gould' (Streisand was married to the actor Elliott Gould between 1963-1971). Enclosed in the envelope is 13 photographs (9 stamped Grosvenor Gallery, London) of Erte's Vegetable Ballet, which was produced in 1926 by George's White's Scandals on Broadway, and 1 clipping of a 1968 Vogue clipping showing pictures from Vegetable Ballet. Erte writes: "My idea was to mount these fifteen pictures on a panel of the size, requested for Mrs Gould's dining room and to paint designs in 'Gouache' on all the panel around them. The whole panel should be framed under glass." Erte's stamped address to upper letter, which is dated June 8th, 1970 and in a stamped envelope, with Erte's return address on verso. Near fine. An article in the New York Times on Barbara Streisand and her house stated that "Streisand took the artist on a tour of the premises recently and he suggested a painted wall design to fill an angular framed recess there." (Reif, Rita. "Barbara Streisand's 5-Story Compromise." New York Times, June 5, 1970). Signed by Author(s).…
