Etat : Very good. First edition. Three-quarter leather, marbled boards, with gilt spine decoration and lettering. Very good condition; some rubbing to corners and edges, but overall a handsomely bound copy. Heavy foxing on some leaves, but internally unmarked and tight.

Four raised bands to spine. Gilt lettering to compartments two and three, gilt decoration to other compartments. Double gilt and rolled borders to front and rear covers with gilt image of farrier to centre of each. 7ins x 5ins, marbled endpapers, xxviii, 370pp, 10pp index plus frontis and 5 plates (4 folding). The frontis and title page each bear a small ink stain. Leather a little rubbed to edge of spine. Some browning to text pages but overall a VG copy in an attractive binding. …

Gilt image of Windsor Castle to front board. Inner dentelles gilt. Bevelled edges. Coursing is the pursuit of game or other animals by dogs chiefly greyhounds and other sighthounds catching their prey by speed, running by sight, but not by scent. Coursing was a common hunting technique, practised by the nobility, the landed and wealthy, and commoners with sighthounds and lurchers.
