This is the story about an old autographed baseball that changes the authors perception of life. The ball is now on exhibit in the Babe Ruth Museum. There is a letter SIGNED by de la Torre to the Akron Becon Journal, enclosed, detailing the story of the book and is a review copy given to that newspaper. The author self-published the book in a limited edition. In the rear of the book are illustrated baseball cards of the 1934 All-Star team including Earl Averill, Tommy Bridegs, Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gehrig, Heinie Manush, Pinky Higgins, Ban Chapman, Red Ruffing, Jack Russell, Lefty Gomez, Charlie Gehrignger, Sammy West, Tommy Henrich, Jimmy Dykes and many others. All of the cards are still intact, none have been cut out. Non price clipped, both the Dust Jacket and the book are fine condition. The author grew up during the time when the Kansas City Monarchs were one of the best teams in the Negro Leagues. But this book is also about Negro Amateur Baseball. The front cover is an color illustration of the 1955 Muelhleback Braves-American Legion Team. THe author states that after the integration of major league baseball, not only did Negro professional baseball suffer a severe decline, so did amateur Negro baseball. Self-published, first edition stated in very good condition. In my more than 40 years of collecting and selling baseball books, have never seen or heard of this title. I have more than 250 publications on the Negro Leagues and Black Sports and over 150 signed sports (mostly baseball) books in stock.
