1st ed. Paperback large wide quarto, very good condition, black & white photos, colour photos, top corner tips covers & few pages little creased, top spine slightly bumped, bottom corner one page creased, minor edgewear, errata page loosely inserted inside rear cover, non-author written & dated dedication title page, autograph (author's written name title page). 152 pp. The beginning of this book covers some of the earlier history of both the A.I.F. and the R.A.A.F., and also the historical facts about the final few days. The author Kenneth Evans was a signaller with the 2/7th Battalion, 6th Australian Division which took part in the last engagements against the Japanese at Aitape/Wewak ending WW2. From the title page (paraphrased): Written and compiled from my original war diary with assistance from many others who served in Papua New Guinea (PNG) during the final days. This story is dedicated to the memory of those servicemen who fought and died in the final conflict against the Japanese, to the Papuans who also meaningfully helped in the liberation of their country, and finally that my visit to the land might be instrumental in restoring the once fine monument at Cape Wom to its former state.
