"The West Riding may have ceased to exist in name, but not in spirit. The rich diversity of the Riding - the bleak moors and dirtbleckened industrial towns, its inhabitants' rugged individuality an vagaries of speech - still provokes a fierce pride in those who are born there. Whone displays a deep sympathy with the "beauty in utility" of the place, and his numerous photographs depict this rugged landscape with a stark simplicity" (Klappentext). *Mit einer handschriftlichen Widmung auf dem Vorsatz. Schutzumschlag leicht gebräunt und leicht berieben und mit minimalen Randläsuren am oberen Kapital. Leinenecken minimal berieben. Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 1200.

From a contemporary review: "This second part of Volume 12 covers works, intended for English speakers, on Romance languages other than French, which was covered in Part 1. The sections on Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese are each divided into two subsections, one on grammars and the other on dictionaries. Only one item is recorded for Romansh. Over half the volume is taken up with 131 useful facsimiles of the works catalogued. The full and accurate entries give more information than do the two main sources for the period up to 1700, namely the STC and Wing. In particular, titles are quoted at greater length, and this is helpful for the identification of the subject-matter of the work in question." Covers rubbed and slightly scuffed, contents Fine.
