Internally there is scattered light foxing/browning throughout both volumes. Volume one has some small worm damage to the first 16pp. Externally, the corners are worn and rounded. The plans volume has viii pages of preliminaries followed by 21 linen backed folding plans.Many of these plans extend to 30ins or more when unfolded. The plans include maps for the Suez Canal. Panama Canal and Amsterdam Ship Canal. Also improvements to tidal rivers for rivers Clyde, Tyne and Tees. Please note that the 2nd edition of 1896 ony had 13 plans. A little rubbing to the marbled boards, but overall a VG set in a handsome bi, 1896

Vol two: marbled endpapers, [iv], 176pp plus additional engraved title page and 41pp plates. Thus in total there are 100 illustrations as required. The marbled paper of the boards is very rubbed. Corners are rubbed and worn, but internally this a very clean set with only a couple of the plates in volume two showing any, 1818
