Original dark cloth with some mottling and rubbing; cloth nicks at spine ends and board corners; slight flaking to spine's gilt stamping and front board's white stamping but all still easily legible. Toning and soiling to edge…s; toning, foxing, and some soiling to endpapers; old brief pencil notes on both pastedowns; ink ownership signature "J.B. Randolph" on front free endpaper; some soiling and foxing to interior leaves along with several occurrences of pencil underlining. Binding is firm. A good+ copy. Although the book's copyright date is 1901, OCLC only cites editions for 1902, 1903, 1908, 1911, and 1919. Reverend Joseph Buyce Randolph, Jr. (1871-1928) served various parishes in Tennessee and north Mississippi.

Oakley, | Chester, Miss." at front free endpaper center; some foxing to interior pages which, overall, remain clean. B/w frontispiece portrait of author with toned/foxed tissue guard sheet; approximately nine other b/w plates on unpaged leaves. Binding is firm. A good+ copy. Uncommon autobiography of Tennessee, Alabama, and Missouri circuit riding Methodist minister Robert A. Young (1824-1902) who served as President of Florence Wesleyan University (now University of North Alabama) during the Civil War and was a founding trustee of Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Born in Sheffield, England and licensed to preach in the Wesleyan Methodist Church in 1870, Joseph Sykes Oakley (1852-1901) emigrated to the U.S. in 1872 and was accepted on a trial basis to the North Mississippi Conference in November of that same year with full admission in November 1874. Oakley accepted assignments at twelve different posts across central and north Mississippi from the 1870s into the late 1890s from Greenville in the state's western Delta region to Starkville and Columbus in the east and Water Valley and Holly Springs in the north until, due to failing health, settling in Winona in 1900 where he passed away in 1901. Oakley served as Secretary of the North Mississippi Conference from 1890 to 1898 and was twice elected a delegate to the General Conference. OCLC locates copies at eighteen member institutions.

Peebles (1854-1926) ministered in Meridian, Mississippi and is buried at the city's Magnolia Cemetery. OCLC indicates that there were editions published in 1900 and 1912 with one copy of the former and six of the latter held by member institutions.

Black leather spine mostly perished; black cloth boards rubbed with some surface abrasion; front board detached with rear board only tenuousl…y holding; toned paper title label affixed at front board's center. Staining and toning to text block edges. Foxing/toning to several initial and rear leaves; rear free endpaper chipped at bottom fore-edge corner; two stubs evidencing two removed lined leaves at rear. Ledger book's title page undated but as lined leaves have preprinted header "Record for District Conference," and date "190_" the book was likely printed in early 1900s; preprinted dates are occasionally amended with handwritten concluding digit or two but not often making it difficult to discern when a year's entry begins/concludes. Features original handwritten ink conference notes regarding member churches, innumerable names, a few financial statements regarding collections, etc. for seven annual meetings occurring from 1908 to 1914 inclusive. Handwriting varies so evidently a number of different scribes were employed. The district conference includes churches from Corinth to Iuka southward to Rienzi, Booneville, Baldwyn, Guntown, and Blue Springs westward to Ripley and New Albany. Several folded stationery sheets and Methodist Education Movement cards laid-in towards rear. Laid-in at front endpapers are twenty-one "Quadrennial Statement" sheets for Bishop R.G. Waterhouse dated for 1910-1913; toning and bug damage at tops with brittleness losses and curling at bottoms; also laid-in are 1915 handwritten pencil statement along with three folded sheets featuring two tables apparently recording collection revenue numbers.
