Hardcover. Etat : Good. 1st Edition. First Edition. Brown full leather binding. No lettering on spine (dark brown spine label appears to have once had lettering but it is rubbed off or faded). 4 1/2" x 7." 160 pages, complete. Front cover is very loose and barely holding. Pages are clean and intact overall but have browning and…discoloration on endpapers, much foxing throughout, and light age toning. Covers are clean and intact overall but have much rubbing and surface wear, chipping at head and tail of spine, and splitting along front and back outer joints and inner hinges. A Good copy. This book contains the printed text of a journal kept by Isaac Martin (1758-1828), an American minister. Martin served as a minister for thirty-eight years and passed away in Rahway, East Jersey. This journal documents Martin's personal thoughts and experiences, much of which are religious in nature. For example, Martin recounts his earliest memory of divine intervention when he was about eight years old. When he was tempted to take a nut from a neighbor's barrel, he experienced shame at the prospect of doing so and believed this was God's way of reproving him. He also recounts being in wicked company and encountering temptations in his childhood and young adult life but overcoming these obstacles through his Christian faith and following Christian teachings and principles. Many of Martin's entries convey his Christian beliefs and efforts to deepen his faith and help others. Some of Martin's entries are several pages long while others are simply one paragraph or so in length.
