Hardcover. Etat : Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Not date, believed to be early 1980s and first edition and printing. This is the first of five 'divisions' (volumes). In good brown cloth boards, decorated with ornate design incorporating seated lady front and back, spine with shapes and motif of urn. The covers are quite firm, with slight weakness to lower front end; grubby around the edges, corners and spine ends frayed. The yellow end papers are a little marked, name on front free end paper. Tanned and foxed cut edges. The text block is printed in two columns; the larger illustrations and plates precede. The pages are tight; the pages are not tanned, but the edges and pages towards the end are foxed; some pages have small marks. The illustrated block is printed on thicker paper; includes fold-outs of colour maps. Many smaller figures and engravings within the text section.The 'Prospectus' page is very loose. Lovely two-tone frontispiece design. The last page, page 1, has small tear; page 261 has large tear. Not paginated as a whole.
