Paperback. Etat : Very Good. Book synopsis: Peace In Kind began with over 50 pages of spiritual lyrics and music. Having decided to convert them all in a poetic style without the music, the reader gets to imagine what the rhythm might be. It also allows the reader to focus on the words that came from the writer as he was communicating with God and Jesus Christ. This is highly personal and comes from deep within my soul and heart. Autobiography: Richard Parnes now lives in Northern Virginia with his wife Mila and has been writing for over 50 years. He is very active within his church and volunteer activities in a food pantry, helping to feed those in need. His hobbies include sports, reading, and gardening.…

Paperback. Etat : Good. Summer, 1971. A naive young man must decide his path upon graduation from a small university in Colorado. Amidst the turmoil of the counterculture years and the looming possibility of being sent to Vietnam, he concludes that he wants to travel, serve, and, if possible, save the world. As a Peace Corps volunteer Mark embarks on a vigorous cross cultural experience in a Caribbean and two Central American countries, with a final stop in one of the more isolated areas of the highlands of Guatemala. Though beset with a fear of the unknown and feelings of profound isolation due to being the only volunteer in a remote village, he eventually gets to know and appreciate the people of the rural communities he is privileged to live among. After a near-death experience takes him to another part of Guatemala and eventually to a horse town, Mark meets the love of his life, Ligia, who will bear him three children and be part of a lifelong commitment to and appreciation of this beautiful and unique country. Much of the courtship process will take place on a coffee plantation owned by Ligia's family, where Mark experiences a different side of Guatemalan society. While Ligia selflessly abandons her own career to focus on establishing a stable bi-cultural home for their three children during the violent Guatemalan Civil War, Mark's wanderlust takes him on a four month solo trek through Latin America and then a country change based on threats from a guerrilla group. Mark's thirteen-year career promoting rural development through various international NGOs begins when he sets up a local development agency in Guatemala to help the poorest of the poor, whose plight is at least partially due to the policies of his own government. Eventually family circumstances force a radical career change and a return to the US to begin a thirty-year calling. Inspired by the extreme do-gooders he'd met along his journey, he takes some of the wealthiest American families in the world to meet some of the world's poorest in some of the most isolated, unstable countries. This leads to many adventures, with both wealthy and poor growing from their shared experiences. Mark's career comes to a sudden and unexpected turn after he is let go as the CEO of one of these international NGOs, and this frees him up to focus on his three children and his six grandchildren. This twist in the road also provides a new opportunity to reflect on what he has accomplished, where he's failed, and where the international NGO community has come up short. Different Latitudes is more than a travel memoir. It is a tale of physical and spiritual self-discovery through Latin American, African, European, and Asian topography, cuisine, politics, and history. TABLE OF CONTENTS Preface 1. Formative years 2. Paperback. Etat : Good. Beyond Denial is an essay collection that sketches a spirituality for our time that is life-affirming and inclusive, intellectually viable and socially responsible. The author, an ordained minister, integrates Judeo-Christian insights with the rich resources of the world's other religions and wisdom-streams. He emphasizes the centrality of consciousness in spiritual practice. Such awareness comes, first, through fostering experiential awareness of our inherent inner Divinity; and then also, through consciously perceiving--and moving beyond denial of--whatever dysfunctional patterns may plague us both individually and collectively. Rev. Acheson invites his readers to look at a wide range of topics with curiosity, questioning and compassion. This book offers many rich insights and practices that can help guide us toward a more hopeful human future, even in a time of great fear and confusion.…

Paperback. Etat : Good. After Legalization: Understanding the Future of Marijuana Policy is a groundbreaking new book examining how legal marijuana will likely be treated in the United States 20 years from now.According to Gallup 58% of Americans support ending marijuana prohibition, and Colorado and Washington State have already passed historic ballot initiatives to tax and regulate pot. When it comes to marijuana in the United States, it is no longer a question of when, but how it will be legalized. After Legalization is a creative exploration of one likely future for legal marijuana that will give readers a sense of the coming battles, relevant players and political dynamics which will dominate the issue in the coming years. How will it happen, and what will America look like after legalization? What should be the age limit? Will we tightly restrict its sale to only a few specialty stores, or will it be allowed on the shelves at every shopping market in the country? Should we give individuals free rein to grow as much as they want, or will we limit production to a few licensed farms? If you care about the answers to these and other questions concerning the future of marijuana policy, this is a pivotal moment to join the conversation; the decisions made now will likely define the industry for decades to come. PRAISE FOR AFTER LEGALIZATION: GLENN GREENWALD, JOURNALIST: Jon Walker has established himself as one of the most diligent, insightful and important young policy writers in America, and this new book cements that status. America is finally coming to terms with the stark irrationality and destructiveness of its criminal prohibitions on marijuana, rendering legalization inevitable. Walker's hard-earned expertise is vital for understanding how this process can be accelerated and most effectively implemented. It's a must-read for anyone with even a passing interest in drug policy and reform.RYAN GRIM, HUFFINGTON POST DC BUREAU CHIEF: The history of American drug policy shows that it does not move in one direction only. At the turn of the century, drugs were legal before being prohibited, followed by liberalization in the '70s, followed by the crackdown of the next several decades. Gains made today could be wiped out tomorrow, which is what gives Jon Walker's remarkable book its unique importance. This is the clear-eyed look around the corner that is urgently needed.…
