Reginald Davis produced this glossy yet curiously square portrait of Charles, Prince of Wales. Davis?who had a knack for photographing and writing about royals as though they were both human and curiously zoological?presents the young heir as a dashing, polo-thwacking, naval-uniform-wearing chap destined for Great Things. It?s a time capsule of the man before he became the man who would be king but not quite yet. Between its pages you?ll find photographic spreads of Charles shaking hands, smiling gamely, standing near Welsh mountains, and generally doing the kind of things that require capital letters in captions. The seventies hair alone is worth the price of admission. Davis writes with the kind of reverence that suggests the subject once lent him a horse, or at least waved from across a lawn.
