Quarto in pictorial dust jacket; rust-colored cloth-wrapped boards;180p, 28 unnumbered leaves of plates: 85 illustrations (some color); postscript, appendices, maps, 25 cm. From dust jacket: "Joy Adamson's life with Penny, a female leopard who she installed in her home near Nairobi, Kenya, with the intent to release her into the wild when the animal had reached maturity. This feat Joy had accomplished first with the lioness Elsa--made world-famous through Joy's trilogy about her and her cubs, Born Free, Living Free and Forever Free--and later with Pippa, a cheetah. The new wildlife reserve Shaba proved perfect for Joy's purpose. She established a camp there and from it released Penny to roam in her natural habitat, find a mate, and produce a litter.Contains 85 photographs taken by the author. "About Joy Adamson: She "was a woman of many gifts: a painter, a skilled photographer, a bestselling author and the founder of the Elsa Wild Animal Appeal devoted to the preservation of wildlife. Born in Troppau, Austria, and educated in Vienna, she went to Kenya at the age of twenty-two. There she painted the indigenous flora and portraits of Kenya tribesmen that today are hanging in the State House. On numerous safaris she collected extensive ethnographic, botanic, entomologic, and anthropologic material fro the Corynon Museum. She is internationally famous as the author of Born Free, Living Free, and Forever Free, as well as for her work with the cheetah, vividly described in The Spotted Sphinx and Pippa's Challenge. Her autobiography,The Searching Spirit, was published in 1978. In January 1980, ten days after having delivered the final text and approved the picture layout of Queen of Shaba, she was found murdered in the bush, close to her camp in the Shaba Reserve" // Adamson, Joy, Africa, Afrique, Animal Husbandry, Biographies, Biography, Congo (Democratic Republic), Congo (Democratic Republic) Kantanga, ?levage, Leopard, Leopard Behavior, Leopard Biography, L?opard Biographies, L?opard M?urs et comportement, Mammalia (class), Mammals, Mammals Congo (Democratic Republic) Katanga, Mammif?res, Panthera, animal husbandry.
