Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book recounts the story of the arrival of homeopathy west of the Allegheny Mountains 150 years ago. When Dr. Reichhelm, a trained and experienced homeopathic physician, answered a call from a local priest to come to Pittsburgh in 1837, he brought with him the promise of a new, gentler, and more effective system of healing than the harsh and often harmful treatments of the time. The author, having lived through that period of transition, tells the story of how Dr. Reichhelm's arrival began a slow but persistent shift towards homeopathy, a shift that was aided in no small part by a series of epidemics, most significantly the cholera outbreaks of 1849 and 1854. The author concludes that the success and spread of homeopathy as a system of medicine was as much due to its demonstrable efficacy as to the skill of homeopathy's early adopters, including Dr. Reichhelm.
