This book presents meticulously compiled extracts from the Kirk Session and Presbytery records of Elgin, a Scottish town, extending our understanding of the religious customs and culture of the area from 1584-1680. The records, composed primarily of the writings of the minister, detail the induction of religious figures, an indictment of public morality, and the regulation of public observances of the Sabbath. Of particular note is the inclusion of accounts of the examination of alleged witches and the efforts of the Kirk Session to reform their behavior. The insights offered throughout this work provide a unique perspective on the religious landscape of early modern Scotland, making it a significant contribution to the study of ecclesiastical history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
