The author spent time in China's Hupeh and Szechwan provinces and collected a range of vertebrates which are described in this work. The author also obtained a large collection of birds and mammals, including reptiles and amphibians, of which ten species had not previously been described. The expedition was carried out with the cooperation of Mr. E.H.
