Hardback. Etat : Very Good. First Edition Thus. 1990. First edition thus - copy No. 51 in a limited edition of 200 copies, signed by the publisher. Eight preliminary pages followed by 16 pages in each issue of nine facsimiles of 'The Magnet'. The Magnet was a British weekly boys' story paper that ran from 1908 to 1940. Each issue contained a long school story about the boys of Greyfriars School, and the most famous Greyfriars character was Billy Bunter. The stories were written under the pen-name of "Frank Richards." The vast majority of the stories were written by author Charles Hamilton, although substitute writers were sometimes used when he could not supply copy. Most issues also included a shorter serial story, and many issues also included a newspaper ostensibly produced by the characters themselves and called the Greyfriars Herald. These parts of the paper were not written by Charles Hamilton. The present volume contains facsimiles of the following nine issues is the Magnet: 495,499,500, 506, 509, 512, 514, 515 and 516. The book is bound in the original green simulated leather covered boards with gold titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with light shelf wear and a dent on the bottom edge of the rear board. The contents are tight and clean with the real name of the author of a story attributed to Frank Richards hand written on page 2 of issues 500, 506, 509, 514 and 515. Pages 4, 5, 8, 9 and 13 in issue 514 have short blue lines drawn on the margin. The page containing the limited edition details at the start of the book has been flat signed by the publisher, Howard Baker. Signed by Author(s).…
