Paperback. Etat : Very Good. Versa Press, Oct 01, 1991. Paperback. Very Good. This book describes the development of Savannah State College during its first one hundred years of existence. This institution came into being as the first State-supported college in Georgia for Blacks because of the 1890 Land-Grant Act of the United…States Government which mandated the State to create a college for Blacks if it wanted to continue receiving federal funds for White students enrolled in the agricultural & mechanic arts programs at the University of Georgia. This publication is subdivided by the administrations of the College's nine permanent & three acting presidents. A section covers the relationship between Atlanta University & the State of Georgia to fulfill the requirements of the 1862 Land-Grant Act before the founding of Savannah State College.
