[ii], xi, [ii], 187pp. and black and white illustrations. This is the 37th book in the publisher's 'Classics in African Hunting' series, and the Volume II on Frederick Selous. Frederick Courteney Selous (1851-1917) was a British explorer, army officer, professional hunter, and conservationist, famous for his exploits in Southeast Africa. His real-life adventures are said to have inspired Sir Henry Rider Haggard to create the fictional character Allan Quatermain. Selous was a friend of Theodore Roosevelt, Cecil Rhodes and Frederick Russell Burnham. He was pre-eminent within a group of big game hunters that included Abel Chapman and Arthur Henry Neumann. As in the first volume, the arrangement of the material by Selous continues in general a chronological format. All of the pieces that comprise Part I, "Sporting Ways in Later Days," come from the latter portion of his career. With the single exception of a piece on antelopes the chapters describe specific experiences from this late paeriod. In Part II, "Selous through Contemporary Eyes," eight of the great Nimrod's friends, along with an unidentified reporter, share their reminiscences with him. The book is bound in the original grey cloth covered boards with black titling on the spine and black titling with an outline portrait of Selous on the front board. The book is in excellent condition and the contents are tight and clean. The first page of the book, showing issue details, has been flat signed by James A. Casada. "Review Copy - not for resale" stamp on this page. There is no dustwrapper (as issued) but the book comes in a brown cloth covered slipcase in very good condition. Signed by Author(s).
