The provision of enormous quantities of stone from suitable quarries was the most important requirement for their construction. This volume comprise…s short archaeological descriptions of the pyramids and their enclosures and determines the exact origin of the building material (above all limestone) from a total of 26 pyramids through a petrographic and geochemical comparison with samples from other quarries.; Während des Alten Reiches der ägyptischen Geschichte (2650-2135 v.Chr.) wurden die monumentalsten Baudenkmäler in Form von Pyramiden und ihrer angegliederten Tempelanlagen errichtet. Für diese Baumaßnahmen war die Bereitstellung großer Gesteinsmengen aus geeigneten Steinbrüchen wichtigste Voraussetzung. Neben kurzen archäologischen Beschreibungen der Pyramidenbezirke wird die genaue Herkunft des Baumaterials (vor allem Kalksteine) von insgesamt 26 Pyramiden mit petrografischen und geochemischen Untersuchungsmethoden im Vergleich mit Proben aus Steinbrüchen ermittelt.
