It is considered a bridgehead between Action Painting and Color Field painting. The focus of the publication are the painterly constellations on the medias canvas and paper. Over 70 works on paper - from the late 1940s to the early 2000s - are juxtaposed with an exclusive selection of paintings from the individual phases of Frankenthaler's artistic oeuvre. Frankenthaler's work is barely represented in European museums and collections and has seldom been shown extensively in German-speaking countries.
