Softcover. Etat : VG. Octavo. Softcover. Illustrated wraps. 95 pages : illustrations (chiefly color), portraits ; 23 cm. Italian text. Published to coincide with the presentation of Anton van Dyck's Portrait of Desiderio Segno (Liechtenstein - The Princely Collections, Vaduz-Vienna) at the Galleria Nazionale di Palazzo Spinola i…n Genoa, the volume presents new insights into the Flemish painter's relationships with the Genoese nobility. The exhibition also examines the works painted during his Sicilian sojourn between 1623 and 1624, during his stay in Genoa (1621-1627). In Palermo, in the spring of 1624, the Antwerp artist met the famous painter Sofonisba Anguissola, who had married the Genoese nobleman Orazio Lomellino in his second marriage. They settled in Genoa and then, from 1615, in Palermo, becoming a prominent figure in the Genoese colony residing in the city. In Sicily, Van Dyck, commissioned to create the effigy of the viceroy Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy, also executed one of the painter, continuing his by then established activity as a portraitist, which he had begun in Genoa and which he resumed upon his return to the city in 1624, leaving behind precious pictorial testimonies, as attested by the portraits now in Palazzo Spinola. The Palazzo Spinola collection preserves the memory of works related to Van Dyck, from the Four Evangelists, which are by a skilled follower of the master, to the copy by an unknown local painter of his only painting intended for a sacred building in Liguria, the dramatic Crucifixion for the church of San Michele di Pagana (Rapallo). Exhibition: Galleria Nazionale di Palazzo Spinola, Genoa, Italy (10.11.2016-26.02.2017).
