The decisive factor was visionary passion. Without ideals and without exceptional perseverance this initiative would not have made such an impact on Chinese and European art. From the moment that Ineke Gudmundsson settled in Xiamen, where contemporary art was unavailable in 1999, she embarked on promulgating her dream, by bringing together art from differing cultures. Qin 3ian, artist and professor at the Xiamen University Art College, found that the gateway to Western art was within reach. Xiamen University provided the splendid location. The demanding frequency of exhibitions and the mixture of celebrated artists from Europe and fledgling artists from China proved compelling. Although it was a local initiative, the art center soon acquired national cachet. Student exchanges and artist-in-residence programmes in various disciplines have made of CEAC the electrifying hub of unprecedented developments. Ten years on, in a China that now has countless art centers, CEAC is still exceptional in view of its non-profit position. And the ball goes on rolling, at undiminished speed. At the invitation of director Ineke Gudmundsson, dozens of artists have the opportunity to develop new art. The Red Snowball presents in texts and images, a prolific overview of these groundbreaking cross-cultural activities. (Verlagstext) ISBN 9789490322113 Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 800.…
