Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. Solomon wrote that there is "nothing new under the sun." This is especially true with life stories. Characters in movies often have a lot in common with real people. This common ground attracts us to their stories. In Starring Roles, Vicki Huffman makes the connection between approximately 40 women in the Bible and women we have seen in popular films. Some connections are obvious, such as the ever grasping for more actress Eve in the movie All About Eve and the original biblical Eve who wasn't satisfied with her perfect world. Or Anna in The King and I and Esther who dealt with difficult Eastern kings. Or Vivian the prostitute in Pretty Woman compared with the biblical prostitute Rehab. Other connections are less obvious but fascinating, such as the Cinderella character in Ever After and the wise woman Abigail who married King David. If you're a movie buff, you'll easily recognize most of these 33 movies but author Huffman, a former newspaper, magazine, and book editor, knows what the reader needs to know. She summarizes each movie plot and shows how women today relate to these fictional and historical women in sometimes surprising ways. Full of sound biblical doctrine and written in an easy style, with many add-ons called "Popcorn and Candy," Starring Roles will help you recognize your role in the Great Director's plan.
