Bound with three other works connected to the French Revolution ; being The Trial of William Skirving, Secretary to the British Convention, before the High Court of Justiciary, on the 6th and 7th of January 1794 for Sedition , State Trials for High Treason. containing the Trial of Thomas Hardy, and The Declaration and Confession of Robert Watt --- Before his Execution for High Treasonat Edinburgh, October 5, 1794. Internally very good with moderate browning, binding sound, quarter leather cover (looks to be contemporary rather worn Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

(8 1/2" x 5 3/8"); in half-tan calf over marbled board with morocco label (Trials K & Q of France); [4]. 108 pages, 2 plates as frontispieces; 92 pages, with portrait frontiespiece; the first frontispiece of Louis XVI is hand colored; the second is of a guillotine, with a handy head-catching basket; the second book has a frontispiece of Queen Marie Antoinette; the book is well foxed; the front endpaper has been cut in half vertically; there are two previous owner names on the recto of the frontispiece; lacking the rear endpaper.~~The second of the two titles (Authentic Trial of Marie Antoinette) appears to have been first printed by J. Evans in London the same year as this Chapman imprint. (T80476; T96760). Very Good binding.

Copy with stains and some small tears, but very rare.  Tegenover de titelpagina een fraaie, handgekleurde, caricatuur prent van 'The martyrdom of Louis XVI, King of France' door I. Cruikshank, 1793 tonende de koning ten voeten uit op het schavot, met naast hem een guillotine.
