A rare, detailed official printing of the 1805 Quarantine Act, itself a revision of the strict measures, first introduced in 1788, applied to maritime vessels arriving in Britain 'from any Part of Turkey, or from any Port or Place in Africa, within the Streights of Gibraltar, or in the West Barbary on the Atlantic Ocean'. The Act, and associated orders in council, made (geographically differentiated) provision for the quarantine for the crews and cargoes (including, inter alia, animal skins, textiles, paper and books) of ships landing in English ports in various locations around Britain, depending on whether they held a 'clean bill of health'.
