Ajouter au panierFirst edition of this scarce British Government paper, reproducing the text of the landmark 1942 Saudi-Kuwaiti agreement. The accord marked a significant upturn in their relations, ameliorating economic and political tensions that had grown in the two decades since the Uqair Protocol and the creation of the Neutral Zone. Brokered by Francis Stonehewer-Bird, Britain's representative in Saudi Arabia, and Sheikh Yusuf Yasin, Ibn Saud's private secretary, the treaty committed both parties to clamp down on cross-border raiding, established a system of "frontier officers" for controlling territorial boundaries, and guaranteed the inviolability of borders except for grazing, other Bedouin movements, and pilgrimage. An addendum lists legally recognized tribes of Saudi Arabian and Kuwait. Of the 1,000 copies printed, we have traced only six in institutional collections (British Library, Harvard, University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, University of California, UBC, and Global Affairs Canada). Octavo, pp. 8. Original printed self-wrappers, wire-stitched as issued. 1942 ownership mark of Harold Meek (1922-2016), architectural historian, typed at head of title page. Creasing and toning: very good.
