Esta importante revista, fue iniciada en 1938 por Mariano Picón-Salas. Ha publicado a los principales narradores, poetas, ensayistas, críticos, pensadores de Venezuela e Iberoamérica. Al momento de esta primera edición la revista estaba dirigida por Elisa Elvira Zuloaga. Los dos números de la revista, están completos, con pequeñas manchas de oxidación y sello de anterior propietario, que no afectan texto. El nº 58 tiene los márgenes exteriores con manchas de humedad, que no afectan el texto y una pequeña faltante en la cubierta anterior.

La primera página del poema lleva dedicatoria del poeta: "Para Angel Augier, este único ejemplar de un poema andino y humano. Pablo Neruda." Te escribiré, Nicolás." Esta no es la primera publicación del poema, uno de los más célebres del Nobel chileno: se había publicado en dos partes en los números 57 y 58 de la Revista Nacional de Cultura de Caracas en el verano y otoño del mismo año. No se publicaría en libro hasta dos años más tarde. Neruda se inspira en las ruinas incas en su visita de 1943; esta parece ser la segunda publicación del poema, y se incluye en el libro homónimo que publica la Libreria Neira de Santiago en 1948, pero alcanza su difusión más amplia con la publicación del 'Canto General' en 1950. La sección IX con su larga y densa lista de epítetos es una de las glorias de la poesía en castellano del siglo XX. La dedicatoria y la tarjeta que se adjunta forman una curiosa triple lazo entre dos de los grandes poetas hispanoamericanos del siglo XX, y Angel Augier, poeta también, pero más conocido como biógrafo y editor de Nicolás Guillén, aunque también publicó libros sobre Neruda y Cuba, y sobre Rafael Alberti y José Martí, etc. Se junta una fotografía original de Nicolás Guillén y Pablo Neruda abrazados. La foto fue tomada durante la visita de Guillén a Chile, (es posible que captura el momento de re-encuentro de los dos grandes poetas) de 1947, durante el cual Neruda encarga a Guillén la entrega del poema dedicado a Augier. .
