During his career, Howe was the associate editor of the Youth's Companion, assistant editor of the Atlantic Monthly, and editor of the Harvard Alumni Bulletin. Howe won the 1925 Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography for his book, Barrett Wendell and His Letters.
