Six registres en 9 volumes in-folio. Portrait de Louis XV en frontispice, gravé par J. Daullé d'après le tableau de Rigaud. Très nombreux blasons gravés sur bois, plusieurs tableaux dépliants. Intérieur frais. Veau brun, dos à nerfs joliment orné, pièce de titre et tomaison de maroquin rouge et havane, tranches rouges. Reliure de l'époque. (Habiles restaurations à quelques coiffes et mors). Edition originale rarissime de ce monument d'érudition nobiliaire. La famille d'Hozier a produit 6 générations de juges d'armes. Tout commence avec Pierre d'Hozier (1592 - 1660), sieur de La Garde , considéré comme le père de la science généalogique, il nous laissa pas moins de 150 volumes manuscrits de ses recherches. Son fils, Charles René (1640-1732) l'aida dans ses recherches, lui succéda dans la charge de juge d'armes et fut nommé généalogiste du roi. Ce sont Louis Pierre, d'Hozier, (1685-1767), neveu de Charles René d'Hozier et son fils, Antoine Marie d'Hozier de Serigny (1721 - 1801) qui rédigèrent cet l'Armorial de France. « Les généalogies ont été dressées sur des documents vérifiés, et c'est là son principal mérite » dit Saffroy. (III, 34204). « Cet armorial n'est général que sur le titre ; il ne contient que 879 articles. Pour être complété dans ces proportions, 150 volumes auraient à peine suffi. Il n'est divisé ni par provinces, ni par généralités, ni par élections, ni par ordre alphabétique général, mais bien par listes de souscripteurs, réparties en six registres, dont chacun est disposé par ordre alphabétique des noms de famille. Quoique incomplet cet ouvrage est aujourdh'ui la source la plus vraie, la plus authentique que l'on puisse consulter sur cette matière ; aussi a-t'il acquis une valeur que le temps n'a fait que légitimer. Le prix en est très élevé aujourd'hui : un exemplaire fut vendu 1705 francs à la vente de la bibliothèque de Mr Solar, en novembre 1860". Guigard - Bibliothèque héraldique. En tête sont reliés un prospectus de l'ouvrage et une longue notice manuscrite (5 pages in-folio) du propriétaire récapitulant en 1826 l'enquête sur le terrain de son ami M. Le Vicomte de B. afin de retrouver la liste de vingt-deux familles comprises dans un prétendu supplément à l'armorial général en vente chez M de Courcelles. Liste attribuée à l'époque par M de Courcelles à M. d'Hozier de Sérigny et formellement désavouée par le M. Le Président D'Hozier, seul héritier du cabinet de son oncle. La grande signature autographe de d'Hozier figure à la fin du premier registre, page 653. Bel exemplaire en veau d'époque, d'une grande rareté.
