King, British Museum Publications Ltd, 1981, First Edition On 10th November 1780 'A collection of artificial curiosities from . the West Coast of North America' was accessioned into the British Museum from Captain James Cook's Third Voyage. This catalogue describes the North American section of the Cook collection, and three further eighteenth-century accession of Pacific North American artefacts. These later collections were acquired immediately after the trading voyages of Captain James Colnett, Captain George Dixon and Captain George Vancover. The book is illustrated with thirty colour and two hundred and fifty-five back and white illustrations. In near fine condition, the binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the gilt lettering on the spine bright. There is a mark to the front board. The end papers and pages are free from marks, tears or inscriptions. There is a stamp of the printer's library to the rear of the front boards and to the publisher's page. The unclipped dust jacket is in good condition with a marks to the front and back cover and slight shelf wear to the top edge of the spine. Will be despatched wrapped in bubblewrap and in a cardboard box.
