Ajouter au panierRare autograph letter signed by influential jazz trumpeter and vocalist Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong. Octavo, one page on the reverse of a 'Lose Weight, The Satchmo Way' flyer, featuring his signature in facsimile, the letter reads in full, "June 19th, 1970 Dear Harry Paul Please excuse such delays as answering your very fine letters, etc., but I have been busier than a cat on a tin roof. I've begun to feel good again. And will soon be back in the Sale Mines again (Meaning back to work.) Lucille and I are getting ready to fly out to California where there's a big concert given in my honour. It will be good for me to fly such a long distance (it's been long time since I have flown) after almost three years of illness. I'm O.K. now so that's all that matters. Lucille send her best. I would be glad to get the scrapbook, will be glad to see you again soon. My regards to all. Louis Armstrong Satchmo." In fine condition with a rusty paperclip impression to the top edge. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope signed by Armstrong in blue ink, affixed with tape to the reverse of 'Boston Globe Jazz Festival' stationary along with a 'Satchmo-Slogan: (Leave It All Behind Ya) promotional card and a packet of the Armstrong-endorsed Swiss-Kriss herbal laxative. American trumpeter, composer and vocalist Louis Armstrong was one of the most influential figures in the history of jazz. His career spanned five decades, from the 1920s to the 1960s, and he was renowned for his charismatic stage presence and voice almost as much as for his trumpet playing. Armstrong was one of the first popular African-American entertainers to "cross over"; whose skin color became secondary to his music in an America that was extremely racially divided at the time.

Ajouter au panierLetter. Fine 4-page letter written entirely in the jazz legend's hand with interesting personal content on the back of four 8-1/2" x 11" photocopies of his advertisement for "Lose Weight The Satchmo Way," often used by Armstrong as stationery to his frequent correspondent, Mr. Kauffmann. Armstrong mentions being very sick in the hospital: "I was really sick this time. Everybody thought that I would die. But the Lord Jesus -- my Doctor -- and my wife Lucille were right there with me at all times-- so I came through alright." He goes on to explain, at some length, what C.O.D. means and then mentions receiving a trombone that Kauffmann had sent to him that had belonged to Mr. Franz Schuritz who had provided Armstrong with his favorite lip salve-- Ansatz-Crème. "I won't let anyone touch (put their hands on it). It is a beautiful trombone. Mr. Schuritz' always a dear friend of mine. I offtne [sic] think of him. God Bless his soul. You are a nice man also. SIGNED "Satchmo and Lucille Armstrong." Erich Kauffmann was the partner of trombonist Franz Schuritz Some creases and wrinkling from mailing. Very Good.
