I spend the winters in Sarasota County Florida which is/was the winter quarters of the Circus. Not surprisingly, we see a lot of circus related books in the booktrade but I usually avoid them because it is so specialized a genre. This book and a few others like it came with a group of railroad related books I acquired. Please find a very nice copy of a scarce book (even for Sarasota!) titled: Billers Banners and Bombast-The Story of Circus Advertising by Charles Philip Fox and Tom Parkinson. This medium-sized oblong hard cover book (10 ¼ x 8 ½ inches 266 pages) was published by Pruett Publishing Company of Boulder, Colorado dated 1985 and the First Edition (so stated). The book is bound in dark red glossy boards with gilt titles on the spine and protected by a colorful, pictorial dust jacket. The book is well illustrated throughout with vintage b&w photos of circus life and a small section of color advertising photos too. The endpapers are fully decorated with reproductions of colorful circus posters of the day. Condition: This book is in near fine condition. There is some light edge wear to the dust jacket barely noticeable. The hard covers are clean and bright and unbumped. Inside the book is unmarked and the pages and plates are clean and bright from cover to cover. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
