Aside from the photo of the Concorde mock-up, the photos may show the Concorde 002, the first British-made prototype of the Concorde and the second Concorde prototype ever built. No date, circa 1965. Photo sizes are 6 1/4" x 4" and 8 1/2" x 4." Photos are very clean and intact overall except for slight wear and tiny bumps to edges and corners, slight age toning (more apparent on back), the photographer's handwriting in red or maroon pen on back which shows slightly onto front as indented lettering, and a few faint surface scratches and smudges. Each of the photos and the entire collection are Very Good, almost Near Fine. A stunning collection of photos providing a glimpse into a significant part of aviation history, the construction of the Concorde. The Concorde was an airliner noted for its sleek design and ability to reach supersonic speeds. The fastest recorded flight of the Concorde between New York City and London was just under two hours and fifty-three minutes (regular subsonic aircraft would typically take seven hours). The Concorde was jointly developed and manufactured by France's Sud Aviation (later Aerospatiale) and Britain's British Aircraft Corporation (BAC; later British Aerospace and BAE Systems). Construction for the first two Concorde prototypes began in February 1965. The first Concorde protoype was named Concorde 001 and built in Toulouse, France. Concorde 002 was built at the Filton Aerodrome (Filton Airport) in Filton, England. Concorde 001 made its maiden flight on March 2, 1969. Concorde 002's first flight took place on April 9, 1969 from Filton Aerodrome to RAF Fairford. All subsequent British-made Concorde airplanes made their first flight on the main runway at Filton Aerodrome.
