Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Fair. No Jacket. 1st Edition. A US 1st Edition, later printing hardback book, as indicated on the copyright page. Although stated as copyright 1951, this copy does NOT have the 'First Edition' statement to the copyright page and is therefore not a first printing. - This is a very interesting copy as it has been signed to the title page, located, dated and inscribed to a previous owner by Mr Charlton Heston in 1985. At the time, Mr Heston was performing as Captain Queeg in the play 'The Caine Mutiny Court Martial' at The Queen's Theatre in London. The inscription reads: 'For (owner)/ Best wishes/ Charlton Heston/ (Queeg, Queens Theatre, London, '85). - The book has also been signed to the title page, without further inscription by Mr Ben Cross, who played Lt Greenwald in the same play alongside Mr Heston. Mr Cross is probably most known for his portrayal of the British Olympic athlete Harold Abrahams in the 1981 film Chariots of Fire. - Included with this book is a Queen's Theatre promotional brochure for the play. This brochure has photographs of Mr Heston and Mr Cross to the front, and contains various actor biographies and advertisements. An interesting book. Please also note that the book has the name of the previous owner written in ink to the half title page, and the words 'autographed by Charlton Heston' written in pencil to the front free end paper. - The book itself is in fair condition overall. It has some loss to the cover at the bottom of the spine. The spine also has creasing from top to bottom. Bumps to all outside corners of the boards, with some grazing to the edges. Sunning and marking to the page block. The book is otherwise complete.

Ajouter au panierFirst Edition. Octavo. First illustrated edition. 494 pages. Inscribed by the author "Sincerely/Herman Wouk. The year after the novel won the Pulitzer Prize, Doubleday issued this Deluxe Edition with special illustrations by Lawrence Beall Smith. The endpapers have nice maps of the Pacific Theatre where the Caine sailed and identifying the events and dates where Queeg takes command and the mutiny takes place. The four special paintings by Lawrence Beall Smith make this a very nice edition. As a member of the Associated American Artists, he became a major combat artist in World War II while on aircraft carriers and as the Normandy Invasion took place. He was the only artist who was present on D-Day so his paintings always have the ring of truth. His four major paintings in this volume are: Maryk Recovers the Float, Willie Keith's Come-coming, the Capsized Ship and Queeg Versus Greenwald. A very good copy bound in black cloth spine lettering in blue and silver, some light rubbing to lower joint, upper corner bumped, in clipped pictorial dust jacket with a crease to front flap some light wear and chipping to edges and two tiny edge tears and toning to rea flap. No names or bookplates.
