Oblong quarto, especially bound in three quarter brown morocco and blue textured boards lettered in gilt (including the original stiff cream wrappers). First edition, with 175 photographic illustrations. A presentation copy, warmly inscribed by Tran Quang Vinh, the commandant en chef des troupes caodaistes (based in Saigon), to the veteran U. S. diplomat Philip C. Jessup on the title page above Vinch's official stamp and affixed card. Vinh was an influential political leader of a religious sect (Cao Dài) active at the time of the establishment of the 1945 Empire of Vietnam. A judge on the International Court of Justice at The Hague, Jessup was credited with playing a major role in ending the Soviet blockade of West Berlin. A gorgeous copy of Gobron's visually stunning work with a distinguished provenance.
